When two people move in together and space is at a premium, sometimes hanging on to particular items may be a way to hang onto your "singlehood." It is worth examining saying good-bye to the belongings you have outgrown or are no longer important. On the other hand, you both need to be sensitive to those items that are particularly valued by your partner for whatever reason.

Also consider issues of taste. You may be a "shabby chic" type and your intended a minimalist. You may like bright colors and flowers, while your new life partner prefers gray, black and sculptures of wild animals. Don't panic. This can be a GOOD thing! Some couples spend time online looking at bedding, for instance, and realize that they need to compromise. You may forgo that bright yellow bedspread while he passes on the black one. When you are conscious of another person, you may find that each of you is perfectly happy with the tan duvet cover and cream sheets. In the end, your surroundings should reflect the tastes and personalities of both of you.
